Autumn Reflections

Sunday, September 22 marks the beginning of Autumn, and I've been thinking...

Perhaps it is the sense that the is year wrapping up and we wonder where the time has gone. We remember what we wanted to get done and can no longer even find the paper where we wrote our new year's resolutions. We see our days become noticeably shorter and the temperature considerably cooler. We watch nature as leaves burst into a kaleidoscope of colors before withering and falling softly to the ground.

Like the seasons, life is a series of transitions.  Every journey begins and ends; soon thereafter another begins.  Some of us make elaborate plans designed to guide us every step of the way, while others will let the experiences of the journey guide them to a destination.  Our lives will be filled with these journeys and transitions, and there will be several points when we find ourselves at a crossroad when we will pause to reflect and consider where we’ve been, where we are and where we’re going.  These stops provide us with time to consider what we have learned thus far on life’s path and how it can be applied as we continue the journey.

So as summer transitions to fall, let us let go of busyness and burdens, even if for a brief moment, and take the time to reflect and be mindful for the abundance we have been blessed with.

Just remember that reflection is different from mindfulness.  Mindfulness is taking time to be present in, and appreciate the beauty of the moment.  Self-reflection is directed-thought designed to help us be a better version of ourselves.

And as our respective journeys continue, our lives will continue to be filled with obstacles, challenges, and opportunities, but through the investment of a little time, some introspection, and a willingness to adapt, a better you is within reach.

(to be continued)
