Connected in Care

Our name, Red String, is rooted in the belief that a red string of fate connects us to those we are destined to meet, guiding us toward our purpose, people and moments where we, together, have the opportunity to make a real difference for the people and communities we support.

On June 26th, one of those strings came to life through our partnership with Heart of Ida in sponsoring their Summer Care Bag Giveaway during the Long Beach Senior Center’s Food Distribution event.

The Summer Care Bag Giveaway served 126 seniors, each receiving a thoughtfully curated care bag filled with essential household and hygiene items. These items may seem small, but for older adults living on fixed incomes, they make daily life a little easier—and a lot more dignified. The joy, gratitude, and relief expressed by participants reminded us why community-centered care matters so deeply.

We are grateful for the dedicated volunteers, intern, and the incredible CSULB Nursing team, whose compassion and energy helped create a welcoming, supportive environment. Their presence ensured that every senior felt seen, valued, and cared for.

Beyond the care bags, Heart of Ida also distributed their bilingual AgeWell Resource Guide, waste-prevention education, and information about their Benefit Enrollment Services—resources that empower older adults long after the event ends.

We are especially proud to celebrate Heart of Ida’s recent designation by the National Council on Aging as one of only 90 Benefit Enrollment Centers nationwide. This recognition reflects their deep commitment to helping seniors access programs that reduce financial barriers, improve access to nutritious food, and lower healthcare costs. Their work aligns beautifully with our mission to uplift local organizations that strengthen equity, wellbeing, and connection across Southern California.

For us at the Red String Foundation, supporting Heart of Ida is more than a grant—it’s an investment in the belief that communities thrive when we care for one another. Their dedication to older adults embodies the very spirit of the red string: an unseen force that guides, protects, and reminds us that we are all connected.

We are honored to stand alongside Heart of Ida and grateful for the impact created together. One care bag, one resource, one act of kindness at a time—we are weaving a stronger, more compassionate community for our seniors.
